ABOUT THE PROJECT
AdjukÖssze.hu is a Hungarian non-profit project based on the concept of crowdfunding, a form of crowdsourcing, and of alternative finance. The site acts as an umbrella, covering and aiding several types of charitable projects. For each project, there is limited time to raise the target amount. As we observed, many initiatives fail right before the finish line, as they are unable to reach their target. Though, this issue could be solved with more effective communication.
We thought that if people could see how little is missing to reach the target of certain projects, the rate of engagement would be higher. Data on the site’s traffic shows that about 30% of its visitors are returning, enthusiastic supporters. Hence, on the one hand, there is a need to engage the most dedicated individuals more; on the other hand, we also wanted to give something back to them and say special thanks for their continuous support, so the donors of successful projects would receive more than an email.
We wanted to come up with a solution, which allows anyone who wants to support a project to not only offer donations but also assist an initiative’s success in other ways, like circulating it on social media or tracking its progress.
Therefore, we had to place ourselves just where our target group was, more specifically, in their browsers. That’s why we developed the “ÖsszeFon” extension, which gives users an update on the current state of donations in real-time and delivers a personalized message every time they open a new tab. This way users are inspired to share the causes to which they donated. Also, one can instantly see when the target for a project was reached successfully, as grandiose fireworks appear on the screen. But what makes this plugin remarkably data-based? Users can see where their favorite projects in real time and the closer a project gets to hit the target amount, the more motivated supporters become, creating a positive feedback loop.
We consider the “ÖsszeFon” extension successful as donors became significantly more active since they experienced charitable giving on a highly personal level and engaged in much higher numbers than in similar campaigns in the past.
